The Pittsburgh Penguins honored military heroes on Thursday, November 10 at PPG Paints Arena, before and during their 7 p.m. game against the Minnesota Wild (one day before Veterans Day).
The tributes began Thursday morning, when 12 post-9/11 veterans attended the morning skate and had lunch in Suite 66. Each of the 12 veterans received a personalized Penguins jersey from a player following the skate. Among the groups that participated were the Veterans Leadership Program of Western Pennsylvania, Team Red White and Blue, The Mission Continues, the Global War on Terror Memorial Foundation and PA Serves.
At the game Thursday night, the Penguins reserved one empty seat as a “Seat of Honor” in memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom, as well as those who continue to serve our country away from home. The seat will be located in Section 116, Row X, Seat 11.
Penguins players wore special camouflage jerseys in the pre-game warmup, and the Penguins Foundation is auctioning the jerseys to benefit the Veterans Leadership Program of Western Pennsylvania. The online auction will open be open from November 10 through November 21. All jerseys are autographed. To find out more about how to bid, visit the link to the left!
