PENGUINS WIVES ASSOCIATION The Penguins Wives Association is a vital part of the Penguins' organization. Wives and girlfriends of the Penguins' players, coaches and hockey management assist the team with in-game collections, special events and fundraising for local charities. In 2008, the ladies created Pens & Pins and struck it big for charity. Their bowling event and online auction of autographed items have raised over $60,000 for the local chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation ®. The Penguins Wives Association also hosts an annual holiday online auction to raise money for local children's charities. Each year, the ladies create and decorate different holiday items — ornaments, stockings or baskets — unique to their significant other's interests, favorite things, hobbies or hometown and include at least one autographed item. The Penguins players' wives and girlfriends have donated more than $40,000 to The Children's Institute of Pittsburgh and Christopher's Guests from holiday auction proceeds. On October 13, 2011, the Penguins Wives Association raised funds for the families of Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, the KHL team that perished in a plane crash on September 7 in Russia. The ladies sold Love for Lokomotiv remembrance bracelets before and throughout the game as part of a league-wide fundraising effort. |

PENGUINS BOOSTER CLUB The Penguins enjoy a long-standing partnership with the team's Booster Club. Each year, the Penguins team up with the Booster Club for the collector's series holiday ornament sale at home games in November and December. The promotion raises funds for the Booster Club's official charity – the Autism Society of Pittsburgh. In addition, Booster Club members volunteer at all Penguins' in-game collections including the annual Score Against Hunger food drive, Toys for Tots toy drive and the children's book drive for Carnegie Library. Valued community service partners of the team, Booster Club members have always been available to lend a helping hand. Interested in becoming a member of the Penguins Booster Club? TESTIMONIALS "The Mighty Penguins Sled Hockey organization was formed in 1998 to provide individuals with physical disabilities the opportunity to participate in the team sport of sled hockey. Sled hockey is a fast-growing, internationally recognized sport and a key event in the Paralympic games. It provides a means for physically challenged individuals to play competitive ice hockey. Our organization has grown to include both a therapeutic and competitive ice hockey experience for people with physical and/or cognitive disabilities. In October, 2010, USA Hockey partnered with the NHL to sponsor the first-ever NHL Sled Hockey Classic in Denver, Colorado. This tournament gave adult sled hockey teams across the country the opportunity to represent their NHL franchise by competing under their local NHL team name as well as by donning their official local NHL team jersey. When the event was announced, we contacted the Pittsburgh Penguins to ask if we could represent the Penguins franchise in this NHL-sponsored tournament given that we were Pittsburgh's one and only sled hockey team. We received enthusiastic support from the Penguins. We realized, though, that our organization could not financially cover the costs required to register for the event, fly the players and coaches to/from Denver, cover the hotel stay and rent vans to transport players and equipment. This is where the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation stepped in. Part of the mission of the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation is to actively promote physical well being, encourage teamwork, and provide essential life skills to young people in our community. True to this mission, the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation was instrumental in providing the opportunity for the Mighty Penguins to participate in the first-ever NHL Sled Hockey Classic. Our team even played in Denver's Pepsi Center, home of the Colorado Avalanche, to bring home the Bronze medal! Our players, some of whom had never flown before this event, were proud to have their names announced over the speaker system in the stadium and were truly honored to represent the Pittsburgh Penguins. Priceless memories were made during that weekend in October! We are forever grateful to the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation for believing in our organization and our players by supporting us in this event." "Providing a child with a chance to attend a high-quality, exciting event is more than just a great memory, it's the beginning of a brighter future. The partnership with the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation and Tickets for Kids Charities has provided the opportunity for thousands of local children and youth to become full members of our community through the simple gesture of including them at a Penguins game so that they, too, may enjoy what most of us take for granted. This exposure to new experiences creates a brighter outlook for these children, helping to give them a sense of hope and broaden their possibilities. The Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation continues to be a good neighbor to thousands of local underprivileged and at-risk youth and for that, we are grateful." “The Pittsburgh Penguins have once again reached out to the community at large with the goal of making a difference in the lives of those less fortunate. The organization learned about a group of athletes determined to participate in the sport of ice hockey in spite of a variety of physical and mental disabilities. The Pens rushed to their aid marketing the group both locally and nationally and providing high quality equipment so that all of the tri-state area’s interested disabled athletes would have an opportunity to participate. The Pittsburgh Penguin Foundation has since made a substantial cash donation to be used for the purchase of uniforms and to offset travel costs allowing the newly formed team to represent Pittsburgh at the International Disabled Festival in Boston, Massachusetts. The Penguins made a contribution to history by co-sponsoring the nation’s first “Special Hockey Winter Classic” on December 31, 2010 at the American Eagle Pavilion in Pittsburgh. Personally, I am in awe of their compassion, devotion, and generosity toward the community’s disabled. On behalf of the families involved in “special hockey,” we are deeply grateful for the smiles, laughter and tears of joy the Penguins have so kindly bestowed upon this courageous group of individuals.” -Stephanie Maust, Founder and President
