Penguins Support NHL Green Week Environmental Initiatives

The Pittsburgh Penguins have a dual role for “Going Green” this St. Patrick’s Day when they face off against the New Jersey Devils.  In honor of the Irish-themed holiday, Penguins players will wear commemorative green jerseys during pregame warmups in an effort to raise funds for the Penguins Foundation’s youth initiatives.

Also, in honor of NHL Green Week and the organization’s commitment to environmental sustainability, tonight’s game is being powered by 100% renewable energy provided by the Penguins and the Penguins Foundation.

The Penguins organization has also purchased enough water to counterbalance the water used during tonight’s game.

The NHL’s league-wide Green Week program calls attention to its member clubs being environmentally responsible and the Penguins have an ongoing commitment to the cause as PPG Paints Arena was the first sports facility in North America to be LEED Gold Certified with the Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design certification program.

Since the facility opened in 2010, it has provided a positive impact on our region and everyone who attends its events.
