Penguins Foundation Unlocks the Vault

Starting today, fans can purchase 20 seasons of historic locker room nameplates

Searching for that signature collectible to complete your fan cave? The Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation has uncovered the perfect treasure for you.

This summer, equipment manager Dana Heinze and his staff unlocked their equipment Vault and uncovered 20 seasons of historic locker room nameplates, which went on sale today at http://vault.pittsburghpenguinsfoundation.org/. These nameplates have not only hung inside the locker rooms and change rooms of the Civic Arena, PPG Paints Arena, and the organization’s practice facilities, but they have also traveled on the road with the team. And now, they can be displayed inside your home!

After an off season of cataloging almost 12,000 individual nameplates, it is finally time to share these unique collectibles with the fans. From Mario Lemieux’s return to the ice to Sidney Crosby’s first goal, these nameplates have seen the most important moments in Penguins’ history. Most of these unique, black-and-gold designs were only ever printed once, including sets from the 2009, 2016, and 2017 Stanley Cup seasons.

“We were shocked to uncover this tremendous collection over the off season,” said Dave Soltesz, President of the Penguins Foundation. “It has truly been a walk down memory lane for our staff, seeing popular names from the past like Mario, Tom Barrasso, Joe Mullen and many others.  It is such an historic day to share this collection with our fan base, as these are truly one-of-a-kind collector’s items. Once a set sells, it’s gone forever.”

The historic nameplates are being sold only as complete sets, the earliest of which dates back to the 1997-98 season. Many of the early years within the collection have only one set available for purchase, while more recent years, like last season’s championship run, have 28 unique collections available.

To view the nameplates online where you’ll find countless styles, forgotten names, and many fan favorites, please visit the Vault at http://vault.pittsburghpenguinsfoundation.org/. Proceeds from Vault sales will benefit the Penguins Foundation’s youth initiatives.
