Penguins April Schedule Wraps with Charity Game on April 29

Pre-Game Features Charity Bags Online

By Cindy Himes

Fans, the wait is over … the 10th Annual Penguins Charity Game on AT&T SportsNet is next week on Thursday, April 29!

During the Penguins road game vs. the Washington Capitals, approximately 5,000 Penguins Charity Bags will go on sale online starting at 5:45 PM EST to support the charitable efforts of the Penguins Foundation and the Mario Lemieux Foundation.

Fans can access Penguins Charity Game by visiting the Penguins Foundation and Lemieux Foundation on social media or by tuning into the Penguins game on AT&T SportsNet.

And to make this year’s Charity Bag even more special – the Charity Bag and all its contents have a Steel City or Penguins theme!

The bag itself, unique to all previous years, is a sling duffle bag that features the beautiful skyline of Pittsburgh as captured by well-known local photographer Dave DiCello.  The black, white and gold photography is a stunning representation of the Steel City and is enhanced with an embroidered Penguins logo strategically placed on the bag!

There are three levels of bags this year and each level features a different skyline image.  Platinum bags (66 available) are priced at $5,066; Gold bags (766 available) priced at $1,066; and Black bags (4,166 available) priced at $266.  Fans should note that charity bags are only available for purchase ONLINE.

All bags are filled to the brim with unique items that are exclusive to Penguins Charity Game.  Just to name a few …

The Penguins ’91 Pilsner Set was created by Wendell August Forge and is only available in the Platinum and Gold bags.  The set features Mario Lemieux, Paul Coffey, Joe Mullen, and Bryan Trottier – all members of the first Stanley Cup in Penguins history;

Also created by Wendell August Forge, the Penguins Ring Tray measures 7”x 9” and features images of the Penguins five Stanley Cup rings and WAF’s iconic hammer markings.

The Penguins Art Puck Set was created by Kait Schoeb, an artist who captured the essence and intensity of four beloved members of the current Penguins team.  Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Kris Letang and Jake Guentzel complete this one-of-a-kind Penguins Art Puck Set.

Pittsburgh-based artist Cody Sabol painted the psychedelic Penguins logo featured in the Penguins Family Puzzle.  At 150 pieces, this puzzle is destined to become your family’s favorite gameday intermission activity!

Created by EMBRACE Pittsburgh, the Little Black & Gold Book of Goals will challenge fans to reflect and then aspire to their personal goals, as the book is filled with inspirational quotes shared by members of the Penguins team, alumni and front office.

This season’s charity bag creation was undoubtably a group effort with Pittsburgh natives, residents and businesses contributing in a variety of ways…artists Kait Schoeb and Cody Sabol created wonderfully unique art pieces;  EMBRACE Pittsburgh created and published the Little Black & Gold Book of Goals; season ticket holder Steve Ferguson helped create and order a host of team memorabilia; local businesses including Wendell August Forge and Steel City provided one-of-a-kind items; World Vision provided volunteer assistance; and Penguins corporate partner FedEx Ground assisted with charity bag shipments.

In addition, AT&T SportsNet has provided invaluable on-air coverage, helping to make this event a huge success and annual fan favorite.  The Penguins Foundation sincerely thanks and acknowledges all contributors for their outstanding support!

Since the 2011.12 season, the Charity Game has raised over $15 million.  Fans who have purchased the charity bags in past years know what a wonderful opportunity this event presents – to provide an assist and support the work of two of Pittsburgh’s outstanding Foundations  – with the purchase of a charity bag that’s filled with items you will cherish for years to come!
