Hockey-Based Scholarships Continue to Assist Local Student-Athletes

Applications are now available for the Pittsburgh Penguins Bob Johnson Memorial Scholarship and the Penguins Alumni Scholarship at www.pittsburghpenguinsfoundation.org.
Both hockey-based scholarship opportunities are geared toward local high school scholar-athletes and are only available online. Interested high school seniors should visit the links below to access the applications:
Bob Johnson Memorial Scholarship
The Bob Johnson Memorial Scholarship, valued at $5,000, is co-sponsored by the Pittsburgh Penguins Booster Club.
The Johnson scholarship was created in 1992 and is presented annually to a western Pennsylvania high school senior for academic excellence, community service and for providing leadership, sportsmanship and a positive attitude as a member of their school’s hockey program. Students must have a minimum grade point average of 3.2 to qualify for this scholarship.
The Pittsburgh Penguins Alumni Association will award its 16th annual scholarship this year, valued at $2,000. This award is co-sponsored by the NHL Alumni Association.
The Alumni scholarship program was created in 2005 and is also presented annually to a western Pennsylvania high school senior for academic excellence and for providing leadership, sportsmanship and a positive attitude as a member of their school’s hockey program. Students must have a minimum grade point average of 3.2 to qualify.
Over the past 29 seasons, 31 Bob Johnson Memorial Scholarships and 15 Penguins Alumni Scholarships have been awarded to deserving high school graduates in our region.
