The Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation will donate $25,000 to the Canadian Red Cross in support of the thousands of people affected by a massive wildfire in Ft. McMurray, Alberta. The fires have destroyed more than 2,000 structures and forced more than 80,000 people from their homes in the region since May 3.
“The great thing about the hockey community is that we all pull together to help others in times of need. “Many players, coaches and staff members in the NHL know people that have been affected by the wildfire. We admire the resilience of the people in the Ft. McMurray region and honor all the first responders and volunteers who have worked so hard to assist them during this very difficult time,” said Dave Soltesz, president of the Penguins Foundation.
