Penguins Foundation Donates Over $1.1 Million to Local Charities

Pittsburgh, PA – For the third consecutive year, the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation has donated over $1.1 million to local 501c3 charities from funds collected through the 50/50 Raffle during Penguins home games. The Foundation has raised over $10 million from the Raffle and donated over $5 million since its inception in 2012.

During the 2017-18 season, the Foundation distributed grants to 90 organizations around the Greater Pittsburgh area. These organizations included the Autism Society of Pittsburgh, the Lullaby Fund, Envision Sports, Bailey’s Bottoms and Random Acts of Kindness, SLB Radio Productions, the Beaver County Education Foundation, Dreams of Hope, The SD Project and many more.

“Being able to donate $1.1 million again this year is just phenomenal,” said Dave Soltesz, president of the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation. “We are able to help so many small, grassroots groups with these grants. It makes difference to them, and that’s why we are here.”

Since the inception of the 50/50 Raffle, the Foundation has been able to assist over 150 unique charities in our community.

“We couldn’t help as many groups as we do without the support of our fans,” Soltesz said. “There may only be 42 raffle winners during the regular season (counting one pre-season game), but the funds we collect impact thousands more in our community.”

The 50/50 Raffle Grants are awarded twice a year – once in February and once at the conclusion of the Penguins’ season. The 2018-19 grant application will be available on the Foundation’s website at the start of the next season.
