The Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation donated $100,000 to the University of Pittsburgh’s Center for Vaccine Research (CVR) from funds raised through the gameday 50/50 Raffle.
This donation supported the combined efforts of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Pirates and Pitt Athletics to come together to find a vaccine for the virus that causes COVID-19. In total, $800,000 was contributed to Pitt’s Center for Vaccine Research.
“We are truly one team here in Pittsburgh,” notes David Morehouse, President and CEO of the Pittsburgh Penguins. “The Penguins, Steelers, Pirates and Pitt are stronger together. This joint contribution to Pitt’s Center for Vaccine Research shows that the City of Champions aims to be the champion for the world.”
“The donation made today was thanks to our amazing fans who supported our 50/50 Raffle this season,” said Jim Britt, Executive Director of the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation. “Every ticket purchased in our 50/50 Raffle gives back to our community. In this case, we are incredibly proud to be able to support an organization on the forefront of one of the most important medical advances of our time.”
At each Penguins home game, the Penguins Foundation hosts the 50/50 Raffle presented by BETRIVERS.COM where fans may purchase tickets for their chance to win big. The Penguins Foundation distributes its share of the 50/50 Raffle throughout the community through Penguins Foundation Grants.
“During these difficult times, we are called to unite as we work towards one goal. That goal today is to be the city that wins the fight for everyone,” concluded Jim Britt.
