The Pittsburgh Penguins will wear green warmup jerseys before their game on Friday, January 28 at 7:00 PM against the Detroit Red Wings in support of The DICK’S Sporting Goods Foundation’s Sports Matter initiative.
The jerseys, as well as other memorabilia, will be available for auction for one week at http://sportsmatter.givesmart.com/ with all proceeds going to the Sports Matter Program.
Additionally, the Penguins and The DICK’S Sporting Goods Foundation will present a grant to the Hunt Armory’s diversity programming, providing hockey and skating access and instruction to new, diverse youth athletes. Players from the Hunt Armory Learn to Skate program will be featured as the DICK’S Sporting Goods Jr. Starters of the Game on Friday.
Among the other Sports Matter initiatives on Friday:
- Penguins coaches and front office staff will wear special green lace pins.
- All fans in attendance will receive a Sports Matter-themed cheer card.
- Sports Matter and Penguins Foundation cheer cards will line the players walkway. Players can read why sports are important to Pittsburgh Penguins fans.
- The Orr’s Jewelers Ice Crew will be using green shovels.
Plus, get your chance at a Sports Matter jersey autographed by Sidney Crosby in our charitable sweepstakes. All proceeds benefit CAF America, who will then make a grant to the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation to support The DICK’S Sporting Goods Foundation’s Sports Matter initiative. No donation necessary.
Billions of dollars in funding have been cut from youth sports programs, leaving millions of students unable to play. Since 2014, The DICK’S Sporting Goods Foundation has donated over $66,000,000 to youth sports and in 2021 gave over $20,000,000 to programs across the country. Through these efforts, The Foundation’s Sports Matter Program has raised awareness of the importance of youth sports and has helped more than one million youth athletes across the country.
The Penguins and DICK’S Sporting Goods continue to support their mutual youth hockey initiatives through their partnering programs such as the Willie O’Ree Academy, DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Penguins Elite Hockey and the Little Penguins Learn to Play program.
